Minister of LHK Siti Nurbaya together with governor and regent
Dharmasraya , CanangNews - Dharmasraya District is the Dharmasraya Sumatran Tiger Rehabilitation Center (PRHSD), where PRHSD was officially inaugurated by the Minister of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia Siti Nurbaya marked by the signing of the PRHSD inscription.
The presence of LHK Minister Siti Nurbaya along with entourage accompanied by West Sumatra Governor Irwan Prayitno on Saturday (29/7/2017), was greeted by the Regent of Dharmasraya Sutan Riska Tuanku Kingdom and Regent of Bungo H Mashuri at Bungo Airport which then to PRHSD location precisely at PT Tidar Kerinci Agung (TKA).
From the field observation, the inauguration of PRHSD located in PT TKA area was attended by officials in three districts of two provinces namely Bungo District Jambi Province, South Solok Regency and Dharmasraya Regency. There were also officials from West Sumatera and Jambi Provinces.
In his speech Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya said that today is a global tiger day that falls every July 29, 2017.
"I am very grateful that today, I first inaugurated a rehabilitation center initiated by a private company," he explained.
He explained that PRHSD is a manifestation of Law Number 5 Year 1990 concerning Conservation of Natural Resources and Ecosystem which is the responsibility and obligation of government and society. PT TKA as an element of the community participates in conservation efforts by building a rehabilitation center.
In addition to PRHSD, it is also expected to build nature reserves in various areas, especially in West Sumatera. As part of important conservation activities, nature reserves aim to protect flora and fauna.
"I welcome it for us to develop nature reserves in West Sumatra," said Siti.
The inauguration of PRHSD also coincides with a series of World Environment Day commemorations established by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the United Nations specialized agency on environmental programs. The theme of this year is 'Connecting People with Nature' and then translated as 'Fused with Nature', with the aim of raising the community in saving nature, flora and fauna.
"Let us preserve our nature, let us preserve our animals," Siti said.
President Director of PT TKA who is also the founder of PRHSD Hashim Djojohadikusumo explains, PRHSD's goal is to contribute to various conservation efforts while maintaining the right of Sumatran Tiger to return to live in its natural well.
"The goal is to preserve the Sumatran Tiger, and the next step is to increase the number of tigers," he said.
PRHSD consists of rehabilitation cages that are constructed very similar to Sumatran Tiger's native habitat on 10 hectares of land. In the early stages built two rehabilitation enclosures with a size of 50 x 50 meters each equipped with a 1.5 x 3 meter flipchard and two 9 x 6 meter treatment sheds. Construction of the next stage is planned in the extent of rehabilitation cage is larger again with the size of approximately each of 1 hectare.
The inauguration of PRHSD was marked by the release of a female Sumatran tiger named 7-year-old Leony from a 54-square-meter treatment cage into a 2,500-square-meter rehabilitation enclosure. Leony is confiscated from illegal possession and entrusted to be treated at the Animal Sanctuary Trust Indonesia (ASTI) transit center in Gadog, West Java since February 2010. With PRHSD, Leony will have the opportunity to return to the wild through a rehabilitation program. (Rml / hms / ZT)
